Brazilian Lemonade

Brazilian Lemonade is a refreshing drink combining peeled and whole limes blended with sweetened condensed milk, sugar, and water. The method balances citrus tang with creamy sweetness while straining removes bitterness from rind and pulp. Served chilled with ice, it offers a sweet and tart flavor profile with smooth texture, suitable as a cooling beverage on warm days or alongside meals.

Description

This Brazilian Lemonade blends peeled limes—with most of the white pith removed—and one unpeeled lime with sweetened condensed milk, sugar, and water. The mixture is pulsed gently in a blender to extract flavors without over-blending and becoming bitter. Straining ensures the drink is smooth, free of pulp and rind harshness.

The resultant beverage features a creamy body from condensed milk, a balance between lime's tartness and sugar's mild sweetness, and a slightly citrusy aroma. Adding ice chills and dilutes slightly for refreshment.

It should be consumed fresh but can be refrigerated for up to 24 hours. Variations include using sparkling water or club soda to make a mocktail with a fizz or adding spirits like rum, vodka, or tequila for an alcoholic version, adjusted by taste.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 medium lime
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 8 cups water

Instructions

  1. Peel 3 of the limes, ensuring to remove as much of the white pith as possible to reduce bitterness. Leave 1 lime unpeeled.
  2. Place the limes, sweetened condensed milk, sugar, and water into a blender.
  3. Pulse the mixture 4–6 times. Avoid over-blending to prevent bitterness.
  4. Use a fine mesh strainer to strain the mixture into a pitcher, pressing gently with a spoon to extract the liquid while discarding the pulp and lime skin.
  5. Taste and add more sugar if necessary to balance out any bitterness. Add ice to the pitcher. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • This lemonade tastes best when fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
  • For a sparkling version, replace half the water with sparkling water or club soda.
  • To make a cocktail, add about 1 ounce of white rum, vodka, or tequila per glass and adjust to taste.
