Ingredients
- 1 loaf brioche bread or challah cut into 1’’ slices (about 8-10 slices)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream, half & half, or milk
- 2 Tablespoons brown sugar packed
- 2 Tablespoons maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Pinch of nutmeg
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
Instructions
- To a large shallow bowl or dish, add the eggs, cream, brown sugar, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg; whisk to combine. Dip each slice of bread into the mixture and flip about 2 times per side to coat each side well, letting excess drip off.
- Heat a large heavy-duty skillet or cast iron pan over medium-high heat. Be sure the pan is well heated then add 2 tablespoons butter. Fry half the bread slices until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Repeat with remaining slices.
- Serve immediately with fresh berries, creme fraiche, and maple syrup, if desired.
Notes
- Storing leftovers
- In the refrigerator: Store any leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for about 5 days.
- In the freezer: Once cool, place individual slices in freezer-safe bags. If you’re putting multiple slices into one bag, wrap each slice in plastic wrap or place parchment paper in between the slices. It will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months.
- To reheat: Place slices in the toaster or heat them up in the oven for 5-10 minutes until heated through.
