Caprese Christmas Tree Salad: A Festive Appetizer
Description
This salad transforms classic Caprese ingredients by slicing large red tomatoes and fresh mozzarella into circles, then layering them alternately to shape a Christmas tree. Lemon slices without seeds and fresh basil leaves are interspersed between the layers to add brightness and herbaceous notes. Purple cabbage is finely chopped and sprinkled over the creation for color contrast.
The salad is finished with a drizzle of balsamic glaze and olive oil, seasoned lightly with sea salt and black pepper. Almonds add a crunchy element, and decorative touches including a cheese star, breadsticks for the tree trunk, parsley, and red berries complete the festive presentation.
Made on a flat board, this salad serves as a striking appetizer during holiday gatherings and highlights fresh, simple ingredients in a creative format that blends salad and decoration.
Ingredients
- 2 tomato large, red
- 2-3 fresh mozzarella balls
- 1/2 lemon
- 1 tbsp balsamic glaze
- 1-2 tbsp olive oil
- 1/3 cup purple cabbage finely chopped
- sea salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp almonds
- parsley for decorating, Parsley, fresh basil leaves, cheese snowflakes, breadsticks, red berries
- basil
- cheese
- breadsticks
- red berries
Instructions
- Wash the tomatoes, remove the sepals, and slice them into circles.
- Dry the mozzarella balls in a paper towel. Gently press on the balls to remove even more water. Then slice the balls into circles. Cut a small star shape out of the cheese with a star cookie cutter.
- Cut the lemon into small slices, remove the seeds.
- Start assembling your Caprese Christmas tree salad on a clean cutting board decorated with a sprig of a Christmas tree. Place 1 circle of tomato and 1 circle of mozzarella cheese at the top of the board. Continue to build rows, increasing the number of tomato and mozzarella slices. Add lemon slices and fresh basil in between.
- For the tree trunk, place oblong-shaped breadsticks or pretzel sticks at the bottom of the tree. Top it off with the cheese star.
- Now spread some chopped purple cabbage across the tree. Drizzle the entire salad with balsamic vinegar or your own balsamic glaze and olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- And finally, decorate your Christmas tree-shaped Caprese salad with almonds arranged in pairs to mimic cone shapes. Add red berries and parsley for a festive finish.
