Cinnamon Sugar Tortilla Chips

Cinnamon Sugar Tortilla Chips transform flour tortillas into crispy sweet wedges coated with melted butter and a cinnamon sugar mixture. After cutting into wedges, the tortillas are shaken with butter and the cinnamon sugar blend, then baked until golden and crisp. The result is a crunchy, sweet snack or dessert accompaniment with a warm cinnamon flavor and buttery finish that can be enjoyed on its own or with dips.

Description

This recipe takes standard flour tortillas and turns them into baked cinnamon sugar chips by cutting each into wedges, coating them evenly with melted butter, and then tossing with a cinnamon-sugar mix. The coated wedges are spread out on racks over cookie sheets to ensure even heat circulation and crisping during baking. Baking at 400 degrees gives the chips a golden brown color while drying them to crispness. Some chips may still feel soft when removed from the oven but will harden as they cool.

The flavor is a balanced mix of sweet cinnamon and sugary coating with a rich buttery undertone, making these chips a tasty snack or addition to desserts like ice cream or yogurt. Their crisp texture makes them satisfying to nibble on.

This method avoids frying, using the oven for a cleaner, less oily preparation. Coating and shaking in a lidded bowl ensures chips are covered evenly without waste.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 8 flour tortillas , (10 inch)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper and top with wire cooling racks.
  3. Microwave butter in a large bowl (with lid) for 1-2 minutes, or until completely melted.
  4. Cut the flour tortillas into 12 wedges each.
  5. Add the tortilla wedges to the bowl of melted butter.
  6. Place lid firmly on the bowl and shake vigorously until the tortillas are evenly coated.
  7. In a small bowl combine the cinnamon and sugar. Toss the mixture over the buttered tortillas.
  8. Place the lid back on the bowl and shake well. Separate any tortillas stuck together and re-shake to ensure they are all coated well.
  9. Arrange the tortillas over the cooling racks and bake for 8-10 minutes, until golden brown. Some chips may still seem soft, but will get crispy as they cool.
