Cardamom Cinnamon Turmeric Iced Tea
Description
This Cardamom Cinnamon Turmeric Iced Tea begins by brewing a spiced chai tea using water, tea leaves or bags, chai spice blend or individual cardamom, cinnamon, and black pepper, along with grated ginger, raw sugar, and maple syrup. The tea is simmered briefly then strained and chilled. Separately, coconut milk is warmed with ground turmeric, cinnamon, and sugar to combine the flavors thoroughly before cooling. To serve, glasses are filled with ice, and the cooled tea is poured to about three-quarters full, then topped slowly with the turmeric coconut milk. This layering creates a visually appealing beverage with complex spice flavors. Variations include using only cardamom or cinnamon or adding rum for an alcoholic option.
Ingredients
Chai spice Tea:
- 2.5 to 3 cups water
- 1 to 2 tsp tea depends on the tea brand and how strong you like the tea, or use tea bags, loose
- 1/4 tsp chai spice or use a very generous pinch of cardamom and cinnamon and a dash of black pepper
- 1/2 tsp ginger grated
- 2 tbsp sugar raw sugar, coconut sugar or other sweetener, or more
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
Turmeric milk
- 1 cup coconut milk or other non dairy milk, warmed
- 1/8 to 1/4 tsp Turmeric
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp sugar raw or coconut or other sweetener
- ice cubes
Instructions
- Add all the tea ingredients to a saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer for 2 minutes. Strain and set aside. Once cool, taste and adjust sweet and spice to preference. Chill until ready to serve.
- Mix the coconut milk with turmeric, cinnamon and sugar. You can also heat the milk to a boil to incorporate the turmeric and flavors better. Cool and chill until ready to serve.
- Fill glasses with ice cubes in tall glasses (2 to 3 glasses depending on size).
- Pour tea into the glasses to fill three quarters of the way.
- Pour the turmeric milk in slowly. Serve immediately. This tea also tastes amazing with just coconut milk(without added turmeric)
Notes
- Add rum to the tea for an alcoholic variation by mixing it in after brewing.
- To adjust flavor, try using only cardamom, cinnamon, or vanilla extract instead of the full chai spice blend.
