Cheerio Bars

These simple no bake bars are made with Cheerios instead of Rice Krispies. They're a fun no bake treat that's made in the microwave and easy enough for the kids to do on their own or with a bit of help.

Instructions

  1. Spray a 9×13 inch pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the marshmallows and butter. Place in the microwave and melt for 2 minutes. Stir till smooth. Microwave for 1 more minute to melt, if needed.
  3. When the marshmallows are melted and smooth, add the cheerios and stir to coat.
  4. Pour cereal into prepared baking dish. Using buttered hands or a greased piece of parchment paper, press bars into the pan.
  5. Sprinkle the chocolate chips and candy over the top of the warm cereal bars.
  6. Melt the candy wafers in a small bowl in the microwave in 20 second bursts until melted, stirring every 20 seconds.
  7. Drizzle melted white chocolate over the bars.
  8. Let cool for 1 hour before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • To make these on the stove, melt the butter and marshmallows in a large sauce pan over low heat until the marshmallows are just melted. Proceed with the recipe from there.
  • For a thicker bar, press mixture into a 9x9 pan. You'll need less of the topping as there will be less surface area to cover.
  • You can swap the m&m's for any candy, such as Reese's Pieces, Heath bars, or even chopped peanuts.
