Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare apples: Wash and dry the apples. Use an apple corer or a knife to remove the core from each apple, leaving about ½ inch of the bottom intact. You can also use a spoon to scoop out a little more of the flesh to create a larger cavity for the filling.
  3. Make cheesecake filling: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth. Add the granulated sugar and beat until well combined. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth. Stir in the chopped nuts (if using).
  4. Fill apples: Spoon the cheesecake filling into the cavity of each apple.
  5. Prepare baking dish: Place the filled apples in a baking dish. Pour the heavy cream or milk into the bottom of the dish around the apples. Sprinkle the apples with cinnamon and a pinch of salt.
  6. Bake: Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the filling is set. The baking time will depend on the size and variety of apples.
  7. Drizzle with caramel sauce: Remove the apples from the oven and let them cool slightly. Drizzle with caramel sauce before serving.

Notes

  • Apple Variety: Choose apples that hold their shape well during baking.
  • Filling Consistency: The cheesecake filling should be thick enough to stay inside the apples.
  • Baking Time: The baking time will depend on the size and variety of apples. Check the apples for doneness by piercing them with a fork. They should be tender but not mushy.
  • Caramel Sauce: You can use store-bought caramel sauce or make your own.
  • Toppings: Get creative with toppings! Whipped cream, a sprinkle of nuts, or a scoop of ice cream are all delicious additions.
