Ingredients
- 1 loaf (1 pound) French bread or Italian bread
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (or a mix of oregano, basil, and thyme)
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (or any cheese that melts well)
- Optional: ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare bread: Slice the bread lengthwise, but don't cut all the way through. You want to create a "hinge" so the bread can open like a book.
- Make garlic butter: In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, and Italian herbs.
- Spread garlic butter: Spread the garlic butter evenly inside the bread, between the slices.
- Add cheese: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese (and Parmesan, if using) evenly over the garlic butter.
- Bake: Place the cheesy bread on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the bread is lightly golden brown.
- Serve: Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

- Bread: You can use other types of bread, such as sourdough or even a baguette.
- Cheese: Feel free to use your favorite cheeses. Provolone, Monterey Jack, or pepper jack would also be delicious.
