Classic Aperol Spritz
Description
The cocktail begins with generously filling a wine glass with crushed ice, which chills the drink and dilutes it slightly over time. Pouring in 2 ounces of Aperol provides the distinctive bright orange color and flavors characterized by bitter orange, herbs, and a touch of vanilla. Adding 3 ounces of dry prosecco contributes a sparkling dryness and fruity bubbles.
A splash of sparkling water on top lightens the drink and adds further effervescence. The final garnish of an orange slice complements the citrus notes of the Aperol and adds a fresh aroma. The combined ingredients create a balanced cocktail that is slightly bitter, gently sweet, and sparkling, typically enjoyed as an apéritif before meals but can be sipped throughout dining.
Serve immediately after preparation to retain the sparkling texture and chilled temperature. The quality of prosecco and Aperol affects the overall flavor profile.
Ingredients
- ice crushed
- 2 ounces Aperol
- 3 ounces prosecco dry
- 2 ounces sparkling water while not authentic, we really love this with a plain Topo Chico, or soda water
- orange for garnish
Instructions
- Add ice to a wine glass until it is nearly full. Pour in the Aperol followed by the prosecco and give it a quick stir.
- Top your drink off with a splash of sparkling water and add a slice of orange.
Notes
- Aperol is a bright orange apéritif with a zesty orange flavor accented by herbs and vanilla.
- Though traditionally an apéritif, this spritz can be enjoyed throughout a meal.
