Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons salted butter
- 8 ounces white or cremini mushrooms sliced or diced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup vegetable broth or chicken broth
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Melt 2 tablespoons salted butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- Add 8 ounces of sliced or diced mushrooms to the saucepan and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are softened and browned.
- Sprinkle 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour over the mushrooms and stir to coat them evenly. Cook for 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.
- Gradually pour in 1 cup vegetable broth, followed by 1 cup milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps from forming.
- Stir in 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce and increase the heat to high. Bring the gravy to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
- Simmer the gravy for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper, as desired.
