Ingredients
- 1 box red velvet cake mix plus ingredients listed on the back of the box (water, oil, eggs)
- 2 .3 ounce instant white chocolate pudding mix
- 3 cups milk cold
- 12 ounces Cool Whip divided
- Green Gel Food Coloring
- Christmas sprinkles
Instructions
Bake the cake:
- Prepare the red velvet cake per to the directions on the back of the box.
- After baking, let the cake cool completely.
Make the pudding:
- In a mixing bowl, add both pudding mixes and the milk and whisk together until smooth.
- Add in half of the cool whip, 6 ounces, and mix until combined.
- Add in ⅛ teaspoon of the green gel food coloring and whisk until completely incorporated. (add more if desired)
- Place the pudding mixture in the refrigerator to chill until the cake has cooled.
Assemble the trifle
- Cut the cake into approximately 1 or 2-inch cubes.
- Add half of the cake cubes to the bottom of a trifle bowl.
- Pour half of the pudding mixture over top of the cake and gently spread evenly.
- Next, add the remaining cake pieces on top of that pudding layer.
- Then top with the rest of the pudding.
- Top with the remaining 6 ounces of cool whip and spread evenly.
- Lastly, add the Christmas sprinkles over the whipped topping.
Notes
- Use a mixture of cake colors. Red and white like an angel food cake or vanilla cake is pretty too.
- Use a different pudding flavor: Use cheesecake pudding, vanilla pudding or pistachio pudding for a fun twist.
- Add berries like slices of strawberries or kiwi or mini marshmallows too.
- Make fresh stabilized whipped cream instead of cool whip if you'd like. Just add a tablespoon or 2 of dry vanilla pudding mix per pint of heavy whipping cream
- Store in the refrigerator covered for up to 2-3 days.
