Easy Garlic Bread with Sliced Bread

Easy Garlic Bread uses softened butter blended with fresh minced garlic and a mix of fresh and dried herbs, including oregano, basil, and parsley, plus salt and black pepper. This garlic herb butter spreads evenly over slices of favorite bread, then bakes at 400°F until toasty and golden brown. The result is crusty, flavorful bread that pairs well with various meals or as a snack on its own.

Description

In this Easy Garlic Bread recipe, softened butter is combined in a food processor with fresh minced garlic, fresh oregano, fresh basil, dried parsley, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper until smooth. This garlic herb butter is spread evenly on slices or half a loaf of favorite bread. Baking at 400°F for about 6 minutes crisps the bread edges and melts the butter into the crumb, developing a golden crust.

The recipe suggests optionally using the broiler briefly to achieve additional browning but warns to watch carefully to avoid burning. The variety of herbs in the butter adds fresh and earthy notes to the garlicky base. Once baked, the bread is suitable as a stand-alone snack or accompaniment for soups, pastas, or salads.

Ingredients

Servings
  • bread use your favorite loaf
  • 1/2 cup butter softened (I use unsalted and add my own salt)
  • 3 cloves garlic minced, fresh
  • 1 tablespoon oregano fresh
  • 1 tablespoon basil fresh
  • 1 tablespoon parsley dried
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper fresh ground
  • 1 tsp kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F
  2. Add all ingredients (except bread) to a food processor.
  3. Pulse until smooth.
  4. Spread the butter evenly over your slices of bread (or half loaf if using french bread)
  5. Place on a baking sheet and toast for 6 minutes (or until beginning to brown). If you need them browned further, you can pop them under the broiler for an additional minute, but be careful! Bread burns quickly!
  6. Remove from the oven and enjoy with your favorite dish. I like to sprinkle mine with a little extra coarse kosher salt right out of the oven.
