Easy Guacamole

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe Hass avocados, pitted
  • Juice from 1 small lime (about 1½ tablespoons)
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional add-ins: ¼ of a small onion, minced; 2 tablespoons minced fresh cilantro; ½ of a small jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced; ½ teaspoon cumin; 1 small tomato, seeded and diced; grilled or roasted fresh corn; salsa

Instructions

  1. Scoop the flesh out of each pitted avocado. Place the avocado in a medium bowl.
  2. Use a fork or a potato masher to mash the avocado until it's relatively smooth. You can leave some larger chunks if you like; this is just a matter of personal preference.
  3. Stir in the lime juice, kosher salt, garlic powder, and ground black pepper.
  4. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. This is also a great time to add any other mix-in's that you'd like, such as diced tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, cilantro, or fresh salsa.

Notes

  • Thanks to the acidic lime juice in the guacamole (which prevents excessive browning), you can prepare the dip a few hours in advance of when you plan to serve it. Keep it covered tightly in the fridge with plastic wrap touching its surface.
