Easy Homemade Cashew Milk
Description
This cashew milk recipe starts by soaking raw cashews in boiling water, which softens them for a smoother blend. After draining, they are pureed with water and optional sweeteners like maple syrup or dates until fully combined. Straining through a nut milk bag ensures removal of residual pulp, leaving a velvety texture. The balanced ratio of nuts to water produces a milk that's rich yet light, with a subtle natural nutty flavor enhanced by any sweeteners added.
The resulting milk can be used anywhere regular milk is suitable, from beverages to recipes requiring a mild creaminess. Its neutral taste blends well in smoothies or coffee, and it’s an easy staple to keep refrigerated. Because it contains no preservatives, the milk should be consumed within a few days.
The recipe is simple and quick, only requiring a short soaking time rather than long preparations or cooking, making it accessible for regular homemade dairy alternatives.
Ingredients
- 1 cup cashew nuts soaked in boiling hot water for 30 minutes, raw
- 4 cups water filtered
Optional Sweeteners
- 1-2 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1-2 dates pitted
Instructions
- Drain cashews and add them to your blender with the water and your sweetener of choice, if using, and puree until smooth.
- Using your Bigger & Better Nut Milk Bag, (or equivalent) strain the milk into a jug to remove any loose pieces and pulp so that you're left with smooth and creamy, perfect cashew milk.
Notes
- Store cashew milk in a covered container or lidded jug in the refrigerator.
- Consume the milk within 5 days for the best freshness and safety.
