Instructions

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium-sized saucepan, put the cocoa powder, sugar, and ground cinnamon.
  2. Create Syrup: Gradually add the evaporated milk while stirring continuously to form a smooth syrup.
  3. Bring to a Boil: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Make sure to stir constantly while doing this.
  4. Add Regular Milk: Once it starts boiling, lower the heat to a simmer and whisk in the regular milk.
  5. Simmer: Let the mixture simmer for a few minutes. Make sure it doesn't come to a boil again; just a gentle simmer.
  6. Remove from Heat and Add Vanilla Extract: Take the saucepan off the heat source and stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Serve: Carefully pour the hot cocoa into your serving mugs.
  8. Garnish:  If you like, add a sprinkle of ground cinnamon to each mug for extra flavor and presentation.
  9. Enjoy: Serve your delicious hot cocoa immediately.

Notes

  • How to Store & Re-Heat
  • To store leftover hot cocoa, cool it to room temperature, refrigerate for up to 3 days, and reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave without boiling.
  • Make Ahead & Freeze
  • Prepare hot cocoa in advance and keep it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To preserve the best flavor, it's not advisable to freeze it.
