Easy Philadelphia Cream Cheese Dip Recipe
Description
The Easy Philadelphia Cream Cheese Dip blends cream cheese with mayonnaise and minced garlic to create a tangy, creamy base. The garlic provides a pungent sharpness balanced by the smooth, mild mayonnaise, while salt and black pepper season the mix. Optional garnishes like spring onions, green chilies, chives, and parsley add brightness and subtle spice.
This dip holds well chilled and pairs excellently with crackers, chips, or vegetable sticks for snacks or appetizers. Its creamy texture makes it spreadable and easy to serve.
Notes suggest increasing garlic if refrigerating before serving to counteract flavor dulling. Variations include homemade Kewpie-style mayo or addition of hard boiled eggs or crab meat for bulking up. Avoid tuna for bulk additions due to saltiness considerations.
Ingredients
- 1 tub cream cheese about 8 oz/ 250g) Feel free to substitute with another brand if necessary, Philadelphia brand
- 4 oz mayonnaise After emptying the cream cheese into the mixing bowl, squeeze the Kewpie mayo into the (empty) cream cheese container till it's about ⅓-½ full. (I do this to save on the washing up!) I like Kewpie Mayo but you can also use regular mayo
- 6 cloves garlic Minced. Substitute: garlic powder If refrigerating the dip then eating it, use more garlic, as the coldness will dull the flavour, fresh
- ½ teaspoon salt If adding canned tuna, add the tuna THEN salt as the tuna is already super salty.
- black pepper few turns of the mill
- spring onions Optional garnishing for colour, minced etc
- green chillies
- chives
- parsley
Instructions
- Mix all the ingredients, except the garnishing, together in a mixing bowl,
- Sprinkle the garnishes on top.
- Serve immediately with crackers and what not. (See above for full list of serving ideas.) Note: If refrigerating first, either let it warm up slightly or add more garlic before serving as the cold dulls the flavours.
Notes
- Adjust garlic levels when refrigerating the dip to maintain flavor intensity.
- Substitute Kewpie mayonnaise by mixing regular mayo with chicken bouillon powder and a pinch of sugar.
- Add chopped hard boiled eggs, crab meat, or surimi to increase volume; avoid adding tuna because of excess saltiness.
