Gallo Pinto (Costa Rican Beans and Rice)

Gallo pinto is a traditional beans and rice dish from Costa Rica and Nicaragua that is prepared with the typical Lizano sauce.

Ingredients
- 2 cups cooked rice
- 2 (15 oz.) cans black beans (with liquid)
- 1 red bell pepper , diced
- 1 onion , finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic , crushed
- ½ bunch cilantro , chopped
- Lizano sauce (or Worcestershire sauce)

- cheese (Cacique Cotija for example)

Instructions
- In a skillet with a little oil, sauté the red bell peppers and onions on medium-high heat.
- When the onions are translucent (after 8-10 minutes), add the garlic and continue to sauté for 1-2 minutes.
- Add the black beans with their liquid, and 2 tablespoons of Lizano sauce (or more).
- After 3 minutes, Reduce heat and add the rice and stir gently. Continue to cook for a few minutes.
- Add the chopped cilantro. Season with salt and pepper.
