Gin Mojito
Description
The Gin Mojito starts by muddling fresh mint leaves with sugar to release their aromatic oils without pulverizing them, preserving a pleasant texture and flavor. Gin and freshly squeezed lime juice are added next, providing a botanical base and bright acidity. Filling the glass with ice chills the mixture, while topping it with club soda adds effervescence and dilutes the drink to a balanced strength. A garnishing sprig of mint and lime wedge complete the presentation.
This cocktail offers a combination of minty freshness, citrus tang, and gin's juniper notes with the versatility to adjust club soda quantity to preference, making the flavor either stronger or lighter. It's best served immediately to retain the carbonation and fresh mint aroma.
Starting with cold ingredients helps keep the drink chilled longer without excessive dilution. Muddling mint gently ensures flavor extraction without creating unpleasant leafy bits. Recipes can be multiplied easily for larger groups.
Ingredients
- 10 mint plus more for garnishing, leaves
- 1 tablespoon raw sugar or regular white sugar
- 1 oz lime juice
- 2 oz gin
- 2-4 oz club soda (less soda=stronger flavored drink, more soda=lighter drink)
Instructions
- Add mint leaves and sugar to a tall glass. Using a cocktail spoon or muddler, muddle (mash) the leaves gently into the sugar.
- Add the gin and stir to dissolve the sugar. Add fresh lime juice and stir once more.
- Fill your glass with ice and lime wheels for garnish if you like. Top your glass with club soda or sparkling water until full (approximately 2-4 oz) and give one more gentle stir.
- Finish by garnishing with a big sprig of mint, a straw and a lime wedge or wheel and serve right away.
Notes
- Use cold ingredients to keep the cocktail chilled with minimal dilution from ice melting.
- Muddle mint gently to bruise leaves and release oils without breaking them into small pieces.
- Adjust club soda amount to your taste, less for a stronger drink, more for a lighter one.
- Multiply ingredient quantities to make multiple servings efficiently.
