Ingredients

  • 1 large yellow onion thinly sliced
  • 1 cup buttermilk or dairy-free alternative
  • 3/4 cup gluten-free all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Soak the onion slices in buttermilk for 15 minutes to tenderize and add flavor.
  2. Combine gluten-free flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
  3. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  4. Dredge the soaked onions in the flour mixture until well coated.
  5. Fry the onions in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes, then transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
