Greek Meatballs (Keftedes)

Greek Meatballs, or Keftedes, blend ground beef and pork (or lamb) with breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, herbs like parsley, mint, oregano, and spices. Rolled into balls, coated in flour, then pan-fried to a browned exterior and cooked through. They have a tender, flavorful texture and pair well with pita, cucumber, onion, and tzatziki sauce.

Description

These Keftedes combine ground beef and pork (or lamb) with breadcrumbs, egg, diced red onion, minced garlic, fresh parsley and mint, dried oregano, salt, pepper, and milk. The mixture is mixed thoroughly and shaped into roughly 2-inch balls. After rolling in flour, the meatballs are cooked in olive oil over medium-high heat until browned and no longer pink inside.

The result is juicy meatballs with a fragrant herb and spice profile. The flour coating helps develop a crisp surface. Fresh herbs like mint and parsley add brightness, while oregano and garlic contribute traditional Greek flavors.

Keftedes can be served with pita bread and slices of cucumber and red onion, finished with tzatziki sauce for a fresh, creamy contrast. This combination makes a satisfying meal or appetizer with Mediterranean character.
