Ingredients
FOR THE SLIDERS
- 1 package hawaiian sweet rolls 12 rolls, we like the King's sweet rolls for this, use your favorite or similar.
- ¾ - 1 lb deli ham sliced thin or use leftover holiday ham
- ½ lb Swiss cheese about 12 slices, sliced thin (try different cheeses as well, Havarti, Cheddar, Provolone, Mozzarella)
Butter Sauce
- ½ cup butter melted, salted or unsalted
- 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard or use your favorite
- 2 Tablespoons brown sugar packed, I use light, but dark may be used
Optional Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds optional, or try Everything Bagel seasoning or keep them naked (my fave)
- 1 tablespoon dried onions or 1 ½ teaspoons onion powder, optional
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder or 1-2 teaspoons minced garlic, this is optional

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350° F (175° C) and spray 9x13" pan with spray oil. Using a serrated knife cut the rolls in half, slicing the bottom half slightly thicker than the top half (this helps them from getting too soggy) keeping them in their "slab" form. Remove the "tops" of the rolls and set aside.
- Place the ham slices evenly over the bottom of the rolls, then repeat with the cheese. Replace the tops on the rolls, set aside to make the sauce.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan. Once melted, add Worcestershire sauce, mustard and brown sugar. Whisk well, bringing to a simmer for 30-60 seconds until thickens slightly and is bubbly. If adding, stir in poppy seeds or sprinkle on top of buttery buns.
- Pour sauce evenly over the rolls, using a pastry brush to brush the sides and cracks with the buttery sauce. If using, sprinkle with poppy seeds, or Everything Bagel seasoning.
- Bake immediately or refrigerate for 4 - 24 hours. With or without sauce. The original recipe had them "marinate" for 4 hours, but I've since discovered you can bake them right away, so either way you choose, they are delish!
- Cover with lightly oiled (spray) foil and bake for 10-12 minutes. Remove from the oven and remove the foil. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10-12 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the tops are browned and slightly crisp. Slice and serve immediately and watch everyone come back for thirds!

Notes
- Optional Add-Ins
- Everyone is different with the topping; if you love poppy seeds, their crunch, and flavor, add them! I'm not a fan because they always get stuck in my teeth. I like them "naked," so to speak.
- My original recipe did not have onions or garlic in the recipe, but if you want to add it, add 1 tablespoon of dried onions (1 ½ teaspoons onion powder) and up to 1 teaspoon of garlic powder (or minced garlic) to the butter mixture for an even more savory flavor.
- Doubles Easily: This recipe easily doubles, triples, or quadruples! Use a half-sheet pan lined with foil and sprayed with a bit of spray oil. Fold the foil up around the edges of the rolls to keep the "sauce" from spreading. Bake as directed, possibly a few minutes longer.

- Storage Tips
- Leftover funeral sandwiches can be stored in the fridge, covered with plastic wrap, or in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
- Freeze: Allow to cool, then wrap tightly in plastic wrap and foil and store in the freezer for up to 3 months. When ready to enjoy, (remove the plastic wrap, keep the foil on) bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time or thaw in the fridge overnight. You may add the sauce before freezing or when baking.
- Freeze Unbaked Sliders: Prepare sliders as directed, cover well with plastic wrap and then again in foil, freeze 2-3 months. When ready to bake, remove from freezer while preheating oven, remove plastic wrap. Spray foil with oil and recover, bake as directed, adding a few minutes to your time covered and uncovered.
- Reheat: To reheat leftover sliders, preheat the oven to 350° F (175° C), place them in a baking dish covered with foil, and bake for 5-10 minutes until they are warmed through, removing the foil for the last 3-5 minutes.
- Keep sliders warm in crockpot: Allow the sliders to cool for about 10 minutes, then wrap each slider individually in aluminum foil, place in a crockpot, lay some paper towels or a clean tea towel between the lid and the crock and place the lid on, turn the slow cooker on warm.
- Keto (Low-Carb) Ham and Cheese Sliders | I am told that Aldi's carries great Keto slider buns; replace the Hawaiian Sweet rolls with those or your favorite brand. Load up the ham and cheese, melt butter for the sauce, and swap the brown sugar for a brown sugar replacement.

- Gluten-Free Ham and Cheese Slider Recipe | Replace the sweet rolls with your favorite gluten-free slider bun, double-check your mustard and Worcestershire sauce to make sure they are gluten-free (Lee & Perrins is GF), and bake away.
