My Stollen recipe, also known as German Christmas Bread, has dried fruit that has been soaked in rum, candied orange peels, raisins, and a whole lot of flavor!

  • 1 ⅓ cups (6 ½ oz/185g) candied citrus peel
  • cup (3½oz/94g) almonds finely chopped
  • ½ cup (4floz/115ml) dark rum
  • 1 cup (8floz/225ml) lukewarm milk
  • 3 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons plus 6 tablespoons granulated sugar divided
  • cups (22½oz/639g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • ¾ cup (6oz/170g) butter softened
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • zest of one lemon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ¾ teaspoon ground mace
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup (8oz/225g) marzipan
  • ½ cup (4floz/115ml) melted butter
