Ingredients
- 1 8-10 lb fully cooked spiral ham
- ½ cup honey
- ½ cup brown sugar packed
- ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
- ¼ cup Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar or orange juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground cloves
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
Step No.1: Preheat the Oven
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Line a large roasting pan with foil and place a rack inside to hold the ham.
Step No.2: Prepare the Ham
- Remove any packaging and netting from the ham. Place it cut-side down on the rack in the roasting pan. Cover the ham loosely with foil to keep it moist while baking.
Step No.3: Make the Honey Glaze
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine honey, brown sugar, melted butter, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper. Stir until the mixture is smooth and slightly thickened (about 3-4 minutes). Remove from heat.
Step No.4: Bake the Ham
- Pour ½ cup of water into the bottom of the roasting pan. Bake the ham for 1.5 hours, basting with the pan juices every 30 minutes.
Step No.5: Glaze and Caramelize
- Remove the foil and generously brush the ham with the honey glaze. Increase the oven temperature to 400°F (204°C) and bake for another 20-30 minutes, basting every 10 minutes, until the glaze is golden and caramelized.
Step No.6: Rest and Serve
- Remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with any extra glaze drizzled on top.
Notes
- Spiral-Cut Ham: Already sliced for easy serving, but you can also use a whole ham.
- No Dry Ham: Covering it with foil during baking keeps it juicy and moist.
- Caramelized Finish: Broiling for the last few minutes will make the glaze extra sticky and golden.
- Orange Honey Glaze: Substitute orange juice and zest for the apple cider vinegar.
- Maple Honey Ham: Add 2 tablespoons of maple syrup to the glaze for a richer flavor.
- Spicy Glaze: Stir in ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper for a subtle heat.
- Brown Sugar Mustard Glaze: Increase the Dijon mustard to ⅓ cup for a tangier taste.
