Ingredients
- 2 cups whole milk
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter optional
- 1 pinch of baking soda
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk and granulated sugar.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat, gently stirring until the sugar dissolves. Mix in the butter if using.
- Once butter and sugar are dissolved, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer without stirring for about 35 to 40 minutes, or until the mixture has reduced by half and thickened to a syrup-like consistency.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and add baking soda to prevent coagulation and promote thickening. Stir and let cool. Transfer it to an airtight container and store in the fridge.
