Share:
Ingredients
- 1-2 onions large
- 1 quart of olive or other cooking oil
- 1 ¼ cup flour preferably all-purpose
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 whole egg
- 1 cup milk whole or low-fat
- Breadcrumbs as needed optional
Instructions
- Slice the ends off the onions and separate into thick layers.
- While you prep your onion rings, heat oil in deep skillet or pot. When oil starts to ripple or bubble, it is ready for frying.
- Mix together the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Take individual onion rings and add the flour mixture, coating well. Place the powdered onion rings on a clean baking sheet.
- Slowly stir in the egg and milk into the flour mixture. Whisk to form a batter. Take the floured onion rings and dip them in the batter until coated. Set aside on a rack.
- Pour breadcrumbs on an open dish or plate. Roll the batter-coated onion rings in the breadcrumbs. Shake off any excess crumbs and drop onion rings into hot oil to fry. Cook until golden brown, season with a dash of salt and serve.
