Hungarian Chicken Paprikash Recipe

Skillet Hungarian Chicken Paprikash is an easy weeknight meal with a creamy, spicy sauce and tender chicken served over noodles.

Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
- 1 pound chicken thighs , boneless and skinless, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 yellow onion , thinly sliced
- 1 red bell pepper , thinly sliced
- 4 cloves garlic , minced
- 3 tablespoons Hungarian sweet paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne powder
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1/4 teaspoon sugar
- 1/3 cup sour cream
- 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
- 3 cups egg noodles , to serve (you can use elbow macaroni or spiral fusilli)
Instructions
- Season chicken with salt and pepper.
- Add butter to large skillet over high heat.
- Cook chicken for 4-5 minutes each side.
- Remove chicken and set aside, and reduce heat on skillet to medium.
- Add onion and bell pepper and cook for 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Add paprika, cayenne, and flour to skillet and stir well.
- Add in chicken broth and sugar, then cook for 3-4 minutes until thickened.
- Reduce heat to medium low.
- Add chicken back in, cover, and cook for 15 minutes.
- Add in sour cream and vinegar and stir until well combined.
- Serve over cooked egg noodles.
