Iced Chai Latte

This Iced Chai Latte features a homemade chai tea concentrate brewed from black tea bags steeped with warming spices like cinnamon, ground ginger, and cloves, sweetened with maple syrup. When served, it’s combined with milk and ice, delivering a refreshing yet spicy drink with balanced sweetness. The concentrate can be stored for several days, allowing quick preparation of the latte by mixing with milk and adding ice.

Description

The Iced Chai Latte is prepared by steeping black tea bags in boiling water, then blending the brewed tea with a mix of maple syrup and aromatic spices—ground cinnamon, ginger, and cloves—to make a spiced chai concentrate. The concentrate’s flavor is sweet and warmly spiced, with the maple syrup providing natural sweetness that complements the spices.

For serving, the chai concentrate is poured over milk and ice, creating a cold, creamy beverage suitable for warm weather or as a refreshing tea-based drink. The proportions can be adjusted for sweetness and spice intensity by adding more concentrate or milk.

Stored in an airtight container, the chai concentrate keeps for up to five days, allowing batch preparation. Shaking the concentrate well before each use ensures the flavors mix evenly.

Ingredients

Servings

Chai Tea Concentrate

  • 4 black tea bags
  • 1 cup water boiled
  • 6 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves ground

For Serving

  • 3/4 cup milk per serving, of choice
  • 1 1/2 cups ice

Instructions

  1. Place the 4 tea bags in a large mug or measuring cup, then pour the boiled water over them. Let the tea steep for 3 to 5 minutes, then remove the bags.
  2. While the tea is steeping, add the maple syrup, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves to a 16-ounce mason jar with a lid. Use a whisk to stir them together, or secure the lid on the jar and shake well. Add the tea and shake again to complete the chai tea concentrate.
  3. When you're ready to make a serving, add ice and 3/4 cup of milk to a glass. Pour a 1/4 cup of the chai concentrate (shake well before measuring each time!) over the milk, then stir. You can add a little more concentrate for a sweeter and spicier flavor, or add more milk to dilute the flavor. The choice is up to you!
  4. Store the concentrate in the airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Notes

  • Store chai concentrate in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Shake concentrate well before each use to redistribute spices and syrup.
  • Adjust milk and concentrate proportions to control the sweetness and strength of the latte.
