Ingredients
- 1 cup basmati rice or long-grain white rice
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ¼ diced white onion
- 1 diced garlic clove
- 1 ½ cups water (see notes)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon salted butter
Instructions
- Turn on the sauté option on your Instant Pot. Add in one tablespoon of olive oil.
- When hot, add in the diced onion and diced garlic. Stir frequently until soft and fragrant, being careful that they don't burn.
- Turn the sauté option off. Rinse and drain one cup of basmati rice using a strainer. Add the rice to the Instant Pot as well as the water.
- Add in the teaspoon of salt. Use a fork to gently stir it in (see notes).
- Cut up the butter and sprinkle the pieces all over the top of the water.
- Place the lid on the pot and move the valve to sealing. Select pressure cook (or manual) and set the time for 4 minutes (see notes).
- At the end of the time, let the pressure naturally release for 10 minutes. Then, manually release any remaining pressure.
- Finally take the lid off and carefully fluff the rice with a fork.
Notes
- By gently stirring and fluffing with a fork you’ll avoid breaking the rice which can cause the rice to end up mushy.
- If you prefer a rice that is just a bit firmer, decrease the water to 1 ¼ cups and set the time from 4-5 minutes.
- To double the recipe, double all of the ingredients but keep the cooking time at 4 minutes.
