Instant Pot Poached Egg

The Instant Pot Poached Egg method uses a mason jar to cook eggs gently in water under pressure. Eggs are cracked into sprayed jars and placed on a rack inside the Instant Pot with water below. Cooking times from 3 to 5 minutes under pressure yield varying yolk consistencies from runny to jammy. This method offers a way to prepare poached eggs without water simmering on the stove, and multiple eggs can be poached at once in separate jars.

Description

This recipe outlines a technique to poach eggs in an Instant Pot using mason jars. After spraying the jars to prevent sticking, eggs at room temperature are cracked inside. The jars are set on a rack placed in the Instant Pot, which has a cup of water added. The lid is sealed, and the pot is set for manual pressure cook times between 3 and 5 minutes, affecting the yolk texture. Quick release of the pressure follows, and carefully inverting the jar removes the poached egg.

The method produces eggs with varying degrees of cooked yolk and whites depending on chosen timing: 5 minutes yields solid whites with jammy to soft yolks, 4 minutes provides soft whites and soft yolks, and 3 minutes offers soft whites with runny yolks. This precision allows users to customize the yolk firmness to preference.

Poaching multiple eggs simultaneously is possible by using additional jars. The technique eliminates the need for traditional simmering poaching methods. Timing may vary slightly with different jar sizes and thicknesses, so adjustments might be necessary.

Cooking times vary based on jar size and thickness; adjust timing as needed to achieve desired yolk texture.Multiple eggs can be poached at once by using separate jars placed on the rack. For hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot, alternative instructions are available.

  • cooking spray
  • egg room temperature

Instructions

  1. Spray your mason jar with cooking spray and then crack your egg into the jar.
  2. Put your rack inside your Instant Pot (this makes it easier to remove your mason jars if you use more than 1 at a time) and then pour in 1 cup of tap water into the Instant Pot.
  3. Add your eggs to the pot then close the lid and set it to sealing and set the timer for manual pressure to either 3, 4, or 5 minutes.
  4. Once done, quick release and remove the poached egg by carefully flipping the jar upside down (the jar will be hot! use oven gloves).

Notes

  • Cooking times vary based on jar size and thickness; adjust timing as needed to achieve desired yolk texture.
  • Multiple eggs can be poached at once by using separate jars placed on the rack.
  • For hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot, alternative instructions are available.
