Italian Dressing Mix
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons salt sea salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon garlic dried, minced
- 1 tablespoon onion dried, minced
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon basil dried
- 1 tablespoon oregano dried
- 1 tablespoon parsley dried
- 1 ½ teaspoons red pepper flakes
- 1 ½ teaspoons thyme dried
Instructions
- Combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl.
- Store in an airtight container in the pantry for up to 6 months.
Notes
To make salad dressing, add ¼ cup vinegar, 3 tablespoons water and 2 tablespoons of Italian dressing mix to a mason jar. Cover and shake the ingredients together. Add ½ cup oil, cover again and shake to combine.
You can also whisk everything together in a bowl, instead of shaking it up in a mason jar. This recipe makes 8 ounces (or 1 cup) of salad dressing. I always recommend ½ cup of salad dressing for a large salad with 8 cups of lettuce or greens. To make a smaller salad with 4 cups of lettuce or greens, use ¼ cup of the dressing. The dressing can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

- A packet of Italian dressing mix at the grocery store contains .7 ounces. This is equal to approximately 1 ½ tablespoons. When replacing the packet in a recipe, I generally round up to 2 tablespoons because I enjoy the extra flavor from the herbs and spices!
- The Italian dressing mix will stay good, stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, like the pantry, for up to 6 months. After that the spice blend will not “go bad” but as dried herbs and spices sit longer, they begin to lose their flavor.
- This homemade Italian dressing mix recipe is naturally gluten free, dairy free and vegan. Omit the sugar to also make it whole30 compliant and paleo.
- To make a zesty Italian dressing mix, add an extra 2 teaspoons of red pepper flakes to the seasoning mix.
