Italian Hot Chocolate
Description
This hot chocolate starts by heating milk with chopped dark chocolate, unsweetened cocoa powder, and caster sugar until fully melted and combined. Separately, corn starch is mixed with a small amount of milk to form a slurry, which is then stirred into the hot chocolate mixture to thicken it as it heats further. The final pinch of salt balances sweetness and intensifies the chocolate notes.
The resulting drink is thick and smooth, richer and denser than typical hot cocoa, making it a warming indulgence especially suited for colder days. Serving it hot in mugs allows the creamy texture and deep chocolate flavor to be enjoyed throughout drinking.
Ingredients
- 3.5 oz (100g) dark chocolate chopped; or chocolate chips
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder unsweetened
- 2 tbsp caster sugar
- 2 cups (500ml) milk + 2 tbsp
