Italian Margarita Recipe
Description
This Italian Margarita Recipe begins by rimming the glass with salt or sugar using citrus wedges. The drink combines tequila, Aperol, triple sec, and lime juice shaken over crushed ice. Grapefruit or orange juice adds brightness, while club soda tops off the glass for a light effervescence. Garnishes like mint and citrus slices enhance aroma and appearance.
The Aperol introduces a slightly bitter orange flavor that balances the sweetness of the triple sec and juice, with tequila providing the classic margarita base. Serving over crushed ice chills the cocktail quickly and slightly dilutes the taste for smoothness.
It’s best served immediately to retain the ice’s chill and the soda’s effervescence. Adjusting alcohol quantities allows for a lighter drink if preferred, and swapping tequila for vodka, gin, or rum changes the base character.
Ingredients
- 2 cups ice divided, crushed
- 3 oz tequila
- 2 oz Aperol
- 2 oz triple sec or orange liquor
- 1 lime juiced
- ¼ cup citrus grapefruit or orange
- ½-1 cup club soda grapefruit flavored
Garnish
- salt for rim, or sugar
- orange or lime, wheels
- mint fresh
Instructions
- Slice an orange or lime wedge and run it around the rim of the glass. Pour salt or sugar on a small plate, then dip the glass to rim it.
- In a cocktail shaker, add 1 cup of crushed ice. Pour tequila, aperol, triple sec, and the juice of 1 lime into the shaker. Give it a good shake.
- Divide the remaining ice between each glass. Pour in margarita over crushed ice.
- Top each glass with club soda. Garnish with fresh mint, citrus wedges, or edible flowers. Option to add the juice of a orange wedge to the top of each glass for immediate citrus flavor!
- Serve immediately! You might just leave all the ingredients out because you will be making another:P. Please drink responsibly.
Notes
- Do not shake the club soda; add it directly to the glass to avoid spills.
- Substitute vodka, gin, or rum for tequila if preferred.
- Reduce alcohol amounts for a milder drink, adjusting to taste.
