Kimchi Fried Rice

Kimchi Fried Rice combines day-old cooked rice with chopped kimchi, soy sauce, and avocado oil, stir-fried to coat the grains and infuse them with tangy, spicy kimchi flavor. Fried eggs, sesame oil, green onions, sesame seeds, and nori strips garnish the dish, adding richness, nuttiness, and texture. The dish balances savory, spicy, and slightly fermented flavors in a satisfying rice-based meal.

Description

To prepare Kimchi Fried Rice, day-old rice is stir-fried in avocado oil over high heat to separate the grains and coat them evenly. Chopped kimchi is added after frying garlic briefly, imparting a slightly spicy and sour taste that defines the dish. Soy sauce seasons the rice, and toasted sesame oil drizzled before serving adds a nutty aroma. The dish is finished with a fried egg, which enhances the richness and provides a soft topping.

The garnishes of chopped green onions, sesame seeds, and nori strips (seaweed) contribute fresh brightness, crunchy texture, and an umami boost, complementing the fermented kimchi’s tang. It serves well as a quick meal or comforting lunch, especially when using leftover rice for texture and convenience.

The method focuses on heating ingredients properly to avoid clumping and over-wetting the rice, ensuring each grain remains separate and flavorful. Serving immediately with the fried egg on top maintains a balance of hot rice and creamy egg yolk.
