Lasagna Roll Ups
Description
This recipe starts with cooked lasagna noodles spread with a filling of cottage cheese, grated Parmesan, egg, parsley, and spices. The filled noodles are rolled up and arranged seam-side down in a baking dish, first layered with half of the meat sauce made by cooking Italian sausage with onion and garlic, then simmered with spaghetti sauce. The roll ups are baked until the filling firms and the sauce bubbles. Mozzarella cheese is added near the end to melt atop the rolls for a melted, cheesy topping.
Flavor comes from the combination of seasoned cheese filling and spiced meat sauce, with parsley and garlic powders enhancing the filling and the sausage sauce offering meaty tomato richness. The texture contrasts the tender rolled noodles with creamy cheese and a slightly crusty baked top. Baking melds the elements and creates a warm, hearty meal.
Lasagna Roll Ups are suited for serving as a comforting main dish for family dinners. The individual portions simplify serving, and the familiar flavors of Italian layering make it approachable. You can add a simple green salad or steamed vegetables for a balanced meal.
This dish is freezer-friendly when prepared ahead—roll ups can be frozen without sauce and baked later after thawing. Leftovers keep well refrigerated for a few days. Adding red pepper flakes to the meat sauce introduces heat, and chopped spinach can be folded into the cheese filling for added nutrition without altering taste strongly.
