Description
This dressing blends tightly packed fresh basil and parsley leaves with coarsely chopped shallots, fresh lemon juice, and pesto in a food processor to achieve a smooth herb puree. The mixture is then combined with buttermilk, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper to create a thick, creamy dressing with balanced acidity and herb flavors.
The preparation involves pureeing the herbs and aromatics first for even flavor distribution, followed by whisking in the creamy and tangy ingredients to unify texture and taste. The dressing can be made up to 24 hours in advance, allowing flavors to meld, and keeps well refrigerated for 4–5 days.

Ingredients
- ½ cup basil tightly packed, fresh leaves
- ¼ cup parsley stems removed, tightly packed, fresh
- 2 shallot coarsely chopped, tablespoons
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice fresh
- 2 tablespoons pesto
- ¾ cup buttermilk
- ½ cup mayonnaise I like Hellmans with Olive Oil, good quality
- ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper ground
Instructions
- Combine basil, parsley, chopped shallot, lemon juice, pesto and ¼ cup of buttermilk in the bowl of a food processor or blender container. Process or blend until pureed and smooth, about 2-3 minutes. Transfer mixture to a jar with a tight fitting lid.
- Add remaining ½ cup buttermilk, mayo, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Wisk till everything is well combined with a small whisk or fork. Open and taste, season with a bit more salt and pepper, if needed. Can be made up to 24 hours in advance. Will keep in the refrigerator for 4-5 days.
