Lemon Basil Buttermilk Dressing

Lemon Basil Buttermilk Dressing combines fresh basil and parsley with shallots, lemon juice, pesto, and buttermilk to create a creamy and herbaceous salad dressing. The use of mayonnaise and Worcestershire sauce adds richness and subtle umami, resulting in a tangy, fresh, and smooth dressing ideal for green salads and vegetable dishes.

Description

This dressing blends tightly packed fresh basil and parsley leaves with coarsely chopped shallots, fresh lemon juice, and pesto in a food processor to achieve a smooth herb puree. The mixture is then combined with buttermilk, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper to create a thick, creamy dressing with balanced acidity and herb flavors.

The preparation involves pureeing the herbs and aromatics first for even flavor distribution, followed by whisking in the creamy and tangy ingredients to unify texture and taste. The dressing can be made up to 24 hours in advance, allowing flavors to meld, and keeps well refrigerated for 4–5 days.

This dressing complements green salads, adds brightness to vegetable sides, and can also be used as a dip or sauce. The fresh herbs provide an aromatic profile that pairs well with the acidity of lemon and the mild tang of buttermilk.
