Mango Daiquiris
Description
Mango Daiquiris combine fresh ripe mango, white rum, lime juice, and sugar syrup to produce a smooth, flavorful cocktail. The recipe offers two methods: blending all ingredients including ice for a slushy texture, or pureeing mango separately then shaking with spirits and ice to maintain a smoother consistency. Adjusting the sweetness and tartness is important due to variance in mango flavor and ripeness. The cocktail features a tropical fruit-forward profile complemented by the acidity of fresh lime and a subtle sweetness from sugar syrup.
The drink serves well in chilled martini glasses and can be garnished with strawberries, lime slices, or fresh mint for extra color and aroma. The option to freeze mango beforehand or substitute rum with lemonade provides variations for different preferences, including a non-alcoholic version. Serving cold enhances the refreshing qualities of this beverage, making it suitable for warm weather or festive occasions.
For best results, taste and adjust the blend to balance mango flavor intensity, sweetness, and lime tanginess. Sugar syrup can be prepared easily or substituted by dissolving sugar directly before adding ice to ensure proper sweetness and texture.
Ingredients
- 1 Mango 1 1/4 cups of flesh, large ripe
- 90 ml / 3 oz white rum (I use Bacardi)
- 2 tbsp sugar syrup (adjust to taste) (Note 1)
- 1/4 cup lime juice fresh
- 1 ice cubes or 1 cup crushed ice), plus more to serve, heaped cup
Sugar Syrup (Note 1)
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1/4 cup water boiling
Garnish (optional)
- strawberries
- lime slices
- mint
Instructions
- Chill glasses in the fridge.
Make With Blender
- Place Daiquiri ingredients in the blender in the order listed (ice last, blends better).
- Whizz until ice is blitzed. Taste test then adjust sour with lime and sweetness with sugar.
- Pour into glasses - this recipe makes the perfect amount to fill 4 martini glasses.
- Garnish with strawberries, lime and mint if desired. Serve cold.
Without Blender
- Puree mango using a stick blender or food processor.
- Pour into 1 litre / 1 quart or larger jar or bottle. Add bacardi, sugar syrup and 1/2 cup water (Note 3). Refrigerate until chilled. Also refrigerate the limes and glasses.
- Once chilled, add lime juice and ice cubes into the bottle. Shake well, then serve, straining the ice cubes. You can also put some crushed ice into the glasses, but remember that as the ice melts, it will dilute the cocktail.
Notes
- Adjust sweetness and sourness by tasting due to variations in mango ripeness and flavor.
- Sugar syrup can be made ahead or substituted by dissolving sugar before adding ice.
- Frozen mango can be used to make a frozen version, though ice is still recommended to moderate the intense mango flavor.
- Non-alcoholic version can be made by replacing rum with lemonade.
- Chilling glasses and ingredients helps maintain the drink’s refreshing temperature.
