Mexican Lasagna

Mexican Lasagna layers cooked ground beef with onion, spaghetti sauce, three types of cheese, and flour tortillas. The layers are repeated then baked until the cheese melts and the dish is heated through. It offers a fusion of traditional lasagna structure with Mexican-inspired flavors and components.

Description

The recipe begins by browning ground beef with onions, then draining and mixing it into spaghetti sauce. A separate mixture combines beaten eggs with cottage cheese, mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan cheese. A baking dish is layered with torn flour tortillas, one-third of the meat sauce, and one-third of the cheese mixture in sequence, repeated three times and topped with extra shredded cheese.

Baking at 350°F allows the flavors to meld while heating the dish thoroughly and melting the cheese for a creamy, cheesy finish. The flour tortillas serve as a tortilla-based pasta substitute, absorbing sauce and contributing texture.

The final dish can be served with various Mexican-style toppings such as shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream, salsa, and sliced olives for freshness and added flavor contrast.

Variations include alternative proteins like shredded chicken, ground turkey, or mixed meats, as well as substituting corn tortillas. This flexibility allows adaptation to different tastes and ingredient availability.
