Mexican Pizza
Description
Using whole wheat dough, this pizza offers a hearty crust spread with a generous layer of salsa for a mildly spicy tomato base. Cherry tomatoes add freshness and a slight sweetness, while mature cheddar provides a rich, sharp melt. Baking at a moderate oven temperature ensures a cooked-through base and nicely melted cheese.
After baking, the pizza receives dollops of reduced-fat sour cream and guacamole, which add creaminess and cooling contrast to the spices in the salsa. Fresh cilantro and thinly sliced spring onions contribute herbaceous brightness and a mild onion bite, deepening the layered flavors.
This pizza can be served as a flavorful vegetarian meal or snack, offering a variety of textures from the crunchy crust to creamy toppings. Optional substitutions include swapping salsa for barbecue sauce to reduce heat or adding pulled pork or seasoned ground beef sparingly for extra protein without overwhelming the pizza's balance.
