Milo Dinosaur
Description
Milo Dinosaur mixes Milo powder and sugar dissolved in water, then combined with milk and ice cubes for a cold, malty drink. The addition of extra Milo powder on top gives an extra chocolatey and slightly crunchy texture as the powder collects on the surface. The base can be made with either sweetened or unsweetened Milo, adjusting sugar amounts accordingly.
The drink is served cold, ideally with frozen Milo cubes to prevent dilution from melting ice. It balances malt sweetness and creaminess, with the option to alter the sweetness level or milk type to preference.
This beverage works well as a refreshing treat for gatherings and can be pre-made and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a few days. Variations include blending with ice cream or adding whipped cream for a richer dessert-like drink.
Ingredients
- 4 Tablespoons milo powder or to taste. If using sweetened milo, reduce sugar used. Get the Australian milo if you can- it tastes better than the Malaysian or Thai one!, unsweetened
- 1½ Tablespoons sugar or to taste. The recipe is super flexible. You can also use brown sugar.
- ¼ Cup water If you only have cold water it's a bit more difficult to dissolve the milo and sugar. A trick would be to put them and the water in a mason jar and shake vigorously to dissolve, hot
- ½ Cup milk Remember milo is a drink of excess! Low-fat is not the way to go (though you can if you want, of course.) In fact, I recommended using evaporated or condensed milk too!, whole fat
- 5 cubes ice Use frozen milo to avoid the melted ice diluting the drink.
For the topping
- 2 Tablespoons milo powder or to taste. Substitute: cocoa powder.
Instructions
- Add the milo and sugar to the cup and mix well.
- Pour in the water and stir till more or less dissolved.
- Add the milk followed by the ice cubes.
- Top with the extra powder!
Notes
- Store Milo Dinosaur in the fridge up to 2-3 days in an airtight container for advance preparation.
- Use frozen Milo cubes to avoid dilution from melting ice cubes.
- For a richer treat, add ice cream or whipped cream as toppings or blend with ice cream.
- Sugar and Milo amounts are flexible; adjust to taste and type of Milo used.
