Negroni
Description
This cocktail combines London Dry gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth in equal measures to create a balanced, bitter-sweet drink. The ingredients are stirred with ice for around 20 seconds to chill and dilute slightly. Straining into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice maintains the cocktail's clarity and temperature.
The optional orange peel garnish adds a citrus aroma and slight flavor contrast, complementing the bitterness of the Campari and the herbal notes in the vermouth and gin.
The drink can be served over ice for a longer sipping experience or neat in a coupe glass for a stronger presentation. Chilling the serving glass beforehand enhances the cocktail's refreshment by keeping it cold longer.
Ingredients
- 1 ounce gin London Dry-style
- 1 ounce Campari
- 1 ounce sweet vermouth
- 1/2 inch orange peel optional, for garnish
Instructions
- Mix the cocktail: In a mixing glass filled 2/3 with ice, pour in the gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth. Stir for 20 seconds to chill and mix, and then strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice.
- Serve: Garnish with the orange peel and serve.
Notes
- Chill your serving glass in the freezer or with ice water before pouring the cocktail for a cooler drink.
- The Negroni can be served straight up in a coupe glass or over ice in a rocks glass depending on your preference.
- Serving over ice slows dilution and allows for a longer, colder sipping experience.
