Ingredients
Dough
- 1 cup warm milk 100-110℉
- 1 tablespoon instant dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons salted butter softened
- 1 large egg
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
Filling
- 1 cup Nutella
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoons ground cinnamon
Nutella Glaze
- 4 ounces cream cheese softened
- 1/4 cup salted butter softened
- 1 cup Nutella
- 1-1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
For the Dough
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine 1 cup warm milk, 1 tablespoon instant dry yeast, 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, 3 tablespoons salted butter , and 1 large egg. Add 3 cups all-purpose flour gradually and use the dough hook to mix on low speed until the flour starts to incorporate.
- Increase the mixer speed to medium and continue kneading, adding more flour 1 tablespoon at a time as needed, until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. The dough should feel soft and tacky but not stick to your hands.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Shaping and Baking
- Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking pan. Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a 12x18-inch rectangle.
- Spread 1 cup Nutella evenly over the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the edges. In a small bowl, stir together 2 tablespoons brown sugar and 1 tablespoons ground cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the Nutella layer.
- Starting with the long edge, tightly roll up the dough into a log. Use a serrated knife or dental floss to cut the log into 12 equal slices.
- Arrange the slices in the prepared baking pan, leaving a bit of space between each roll. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 30 to 45 minutes, until puffy.
- Preheat the oven to 325°F. Bake the rolls for 18 to 20 minutes, or until lightly golden on top.
Nutella Glaze
- While the rolls are baking, prepare the Nutella glaze. In a medium bowl, use a hand mixer to beat 4 ounces cream cheese (softened) and 1/4 cup salted butter (softened) until smooth and fluffy. Add 1 cup Nutella and 1-1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, half a cup at a time, mixing until well combined until the desired consistency is reached.
- Allow the rolls to cool slightly, about 5 minutes, then drizzle with the Nutella glaze while still warm or wait until completely cool for a frosted effect.
Notes
- How thick or thin you make the glaze is up to you! For a thinner, drizzly glaze, use less powdered sugar and add 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk or heavy cream. For a thicker, spreadable frosting, use the full 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar. For best results, let the rolls cool completely before spreading a thick frosting.
