Instructions
- You'll need enough oil for the apple fritters to float, I like to use a 6 quart dutch oven because they heat evenly. You'll most likely need 2-3 cups of oil.
- Heat the oil to 350ºF. Use a candy thermometer or instant read thermometer to make sure it's the right temperature.
- Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and cloves. Set aside.
- Cream together the white and brown sugar and the butter.
- Add the eggs and beat until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
- Add the vanilla and sour cream, mix until combined.
- Add half of the dry ingredient mixture and mix until just combined.
- Add half of the apple cider and mix until just combined.
- Add the rest of the dry ingredient mixture. Mix until just combined.
- Add the rest of the apple cider. Mix until just combined.
- Fold in the apples gently until evenly mixed through.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of batter into the oil, turning periodically until the fritter is browned evenly. This will take about 6-8 minutes.
- Let cool and then sprinkle with powdered sugar.
