Pumpkin Banana Dog Treats
Description
The recipe mixes pumpkin puree and ripe mashed banana with beaten eggs to create a moist, flavorful base. Whole wheat flour is gradually added to achieve a dough with sufficient firmness for rolling and cutting. The dough is rolled to about 1/4-inch thickness and shaped into small bone-shaped treats before baking until golden brown and crisp around the edges but still tender inside.
Once cooled completely, the treats can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for several weeks. This allows easy access to healthy, homemade snacks that avoid preservatives and artificial ingredients often found in commercial dog treats.
Ingredients
- 1 cup pumpkin puree
- 1 banana mashed, large
- 2 egg well beaten
- 3 cups whole wheat flour more as needed
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with a silpat mat.
- Mix the pumpkin, mashed banana, and beaten eggs together until well combined.
- Add the flour and mix until combined. Use more flour as needed if the dough is too sticky.
- Dust the counter with flour and roll out the dough to approximately 1/4" thickness and use a small dog bone cutter to cut out treats.
- Place on the prepared baking sheet an inch apart.
- Place into the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
- Allow to cool on rack completely before storing them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks.
