Red Lentil Curry

Red Lentil Curry blends masoor dal with cumin seeds, onions, garlic, tomatoes, and green chili to create a thick, spiced stew. The combination of turmeric, chili powder, and cilantro adds warmth and bright herbal notes. Simmering the lentils in water until soft results in a hearty texture that thickens as it cooks. This curry pairs well with chapatti and makes a filling vegetarian dish.

Description

The Red Lentil Curry recipe centers on masoor dal cooked with cumin seeds, fresh garlic, onions, and tomatoes. It begins by sautéing cumin and garlic in oil, then softening onions before adding spices like chili powder and turmeric for depth. Tomatoes and green chilies contribute acidity and heat. The lentils are washed and simmered in water until tender, with the curry thickening uncovered at the end. This process creates a creamy, richly spiced dish with a balance of mild heat and earthiness.

The texture is smooth but substantial from the broken-down lentils, complemented by the softness of cooked tomatoes and onions. The coriander garnish finishes with a fresh herbal touch. This curry is practical to serve alongside homemade chapatti, making it suitable for a wholesome lunch or dinner.

Nutritional details are provided for general reference and should not be solely relied on. The curry benefits from slow simmering and adjusting thickness at the end to taste.
