Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 can refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 8 large marshmallows
  • 2 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 14/ cup butter melted
  • Bible or Easter storybook

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven per package directions.
  2. Read John 19 aloud while the oven is preheating. (Read John 12-18 if you have more time.)
  3. Mix the cinnamon and sugar together.
  4. Unroll the crescent rolls, explaining that this is like the linen cloth wrapping they wrapped Jesus in.
  5. Ask your child or children to take a marshmallow, explaining that it represents the body of Jesus, all pure and white because He was without sin.
  6. Have them roll the marshmallows in the melted butter, explaining that it represents the oils of embalming . (If you have a question about what "embalming" means. Simply say it's an oil used for cleansing bodies someone passes away)
  7. Then have them roll the marshmallows in the cinnamon sugar mixture, explaining that this represents the spices used to anoint the body. (If you have a question about what "anoint" means. Simply say it's an "oil put on (someone) as part of a religious ceremony"
  8. Finally have them wrap the marshmallow in the crescent roll, explaining that this symbolizes Jesus' tomb. (Be sure to pinch the dough together really really good so the marshmallow doesn't ooze out of the cracks.)
  9. Roll the dough in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat the outside as well, optional.
  10. Place the rolls in the oven, explaining that this symbolizes Jesus' tomb.
  11. Bake according to the directions on the package.
  12. While the rolls are baking, read John 20:1-18.
  13. Remove the rolls when done baking and cool to touch..
  14. Break one open and discover what happened to the marshmallow.
  15. Jesus is risen!
  16. Read 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18. Jesus is coming again! Celebrate!
