Ingredients
- 1 lb beef , chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter (or margarine)
- 1 onion , finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic , chopped
- ½ cup ketchup
- ½ cup chicken stock (or beef stock)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon crushed pepper
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar
- salt
- pepper
- 4 hamburger buns
Instructions
- In a hot pan, place half the butter (or margarine) and brown the onion slices, stirring frequently.
- After about 5 minutes, the onions should start to turn translucent.
- Then add the garlic and continue to sauté for 1 or 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and transfer to a container. Set aside.
- In the same pan, heat the rest of the butter (or margarine) and brown the beef until nicely browned.
- Stir occasionally. The meat should hang a little on the pan to obtain a golden color, and this way it will not release all its water.
- Season the meat with salt and pepper, mix, then remove excess fat and water.
- Then add the reserved onion/garlic mixture, chili pepper, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, chicken stock (or meat stock), and brown sugar.
- Let everything simmer uncovered for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Adjust the salt, and distribute the meat in a lightly toasted hamburger bun.
- Serve with salad and/or fries.
