Slow Cooker Cincinnati Turkey Chili

This easy and healthy Slow Cooker Cincinnati Turkey Chili is full of sweet, spicy, and smoky flavors. Serve it as is or on top of spaghetti. It's sure to become a family favorite!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 1 yellow onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon Coriander
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup low sodium chicken broth
  • 15 ouncs kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 14.5 ounces petite diced tomatoes
  • cheddar cheese, green onions, and plain Greek yogurt or sour cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat a 12 inch skillet over medium high heat.
  2. Spray the skillet generously with cooking spray and add in the ground turkey and diced onion.
  3. Use a wooden spoon to break up the turkey into small crumbles.
  4. Cook the turkey and onion until the turkey is completely cooked through, about 4-5 minutes, then add in the tomato paste, stirring until combined.
  5. Pour the turkey and onion mixture into the slow cooker and add in the rest of the ingredients minus the toppings.
  6. Stir everything together then cover and cook on low for 3-5 hours depending on the size of your slow cooker.
  7. Top with shredded cheddar cheese, sliced green onions, and Greek yogurt or sour cream if desired.
