Ingredients
- 1 ham bone
- 1 cup diced ham
- 1 medium onion peeled and chopped
- 1 pound green split peas rinsed (about 2 heaping cups)
- 4 cups water
- 4 cups chicken broth or vegetable broth
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon ground savoury
- 1/2 cup diced carrots
- 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- In a 6-quart slow cooker, place the ham bone and the chopped ham. Add the onion, split peas, water, and broth.
- Measure in the mustard, savoury, carrots and pepper.
- Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 5. Peas should be soft.
- Remove the ham bone and taste the soup. Season with salt if desired.
- Serve as is or puree for a smoother soup.
