Smashed Eggs on Toast
Description
This recipe calls for boiling medium eggs to a preferred doneness, around five minutes for soft but set yolks. After boiling, the eggs are cooled in cold water to stop cooking and make peeling easier. Meanwhile, slices of bread are toasted and spread with softened butter to add richness. The peeled eggs are placed on the toast and pressed gently with a fork to break them into chunks, creating a rustic, soft topping. The combination results in warm, tender eggs with a smooth texture paired with crisp, buttery toast. This preparation is straightforward and highlights the eggs’ natural flavor and texture without complex seasoning. It serves well for quick breakfasts or snacks.
Ingredients
- 4 egg medium
- 2 lice bread
- 1 teaspoon butter softened
Instructions
- Add 4 Eggs to a pan of boiling water. Boil until cooked to your liking. We did ours for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, toast 2 slice Bread.
- Remove the eggs from the hot water and put them in a bowl of cold water. Crack the shell and peel it off. Spread 1 teaspoon Butter on the toast and place the eggs on top.
- Using a fork, press down on the eggs, breaking them up over the toast.
Notes
- Let eggs come to room temperature before boiling to improve cooking consistency.
- Use fresh eggs, which sink in water, for the best flavor and ease of handling.
- Peel boiled eggs under cold water to help remove shells more cleanly.
