Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease an 11x7 inch baking dish (or one of similar size).
  2. Add the drained green beans to the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, melted butter, soy sauce, garlic powder, and pepper. Pour over the top of the green beans, then stir carefully to coat the beans.
  4. Sprinkle the chopped bacon over the top, then bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes.

Notes

  • Frozen green beans can be used instead of canned green beans, just allow them to thaw thoroughly first.
  • Fresh green beans can also be used, just boil them for 10 minutes and drain before proceeding with the recipe.
  • Omit the bacon for a vegetarian version of the recipe.
  • Making in advance: this is a great recipe to prepare in advance if you’re making it for a holiday meal. Prepare as directed, but don’t bake yet. Cover your baking dish with aluminum foil and place in the fridge up to one day in advance. Remove the foil and bake as directed.
  • Storing leftovers: any leftover Smothered Green Beans can stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days.
